Blake Flynn

Blake Flynn is the artist who paints surrealism. As he says himself – “within the genre of Magic Realism, where the depiction is realistic even though the subject matter is not, but without the dominant dream-based or subconscious component found in Surrealism“( Blake Flynn.2002). His paintings are innovative with deep thoughts in it. They have cultural boundaries and many other things in common – that is why I like him. Also Blake’s work dominates humans and animals – this is exactly what I like to draw.

This Artist inspiring me by the way he expresses his ideas and abilities of controlling the brush. All Blake’s Flyyn’s works are done immaculately: the strokes are very accurate, shades blend all together; the backgrounds are blurry, but bright. Also his main things are realistic and at the same time they are surrealistic. Moreover, the colours are made of thin layers of paint with soft brushes, which causes a pastel-like, light effect with the look of watercolour

I have been asked in school to draw a surrealistic picture and “Man Conquers Fish“was the exact painting that I took for an example of how to create a surrealistic picture. I took the idea of the fish and the point of humans holding it.
